Steel Split

Green sand and other types of sand casting are usually located in what foundry moulders as containers are nothing more than manufactured wood or steel boxes without soil or lid.
The mold box has two parts and they are split into two halves that are stacked on top of one another, the two halves are called to deal that the upper part, and drag flask to the bottom of the box.

The mold box project described here concerns the construction of the face and dragging boxes of light mild steel mold. A good size for hobby work mal is a box of 9 x 10 "(250 x 30mm). But you can resize to your requirements.

Most home owners workshop usually has some of the basic tools noted in the following list, you just need to own them all, as many tools can be rented from equipment rental suppliers but you need the most below a set of steel mold building
boxes for your hobby foundry.

Your equipment should include: Vise - Ball peen, hammer or engineer - Hacksaw - Arc or MIG welder. Ten least two angle 90 degrees angle terminals - A 4 "Angle Grinder - Bench drill or hand held drill - Oxy welding welding set with a small tip.
(A charcoal forge will sufficient for the 5 / 16 "heat bar MS) or a small propane torch heating.

The steel boxes are made in a square shape or rectangular shape, square seems to work better than square, so we continue with that format. The first thing to do is clean up the rough cut edges of the steel lengths that will make the side of the boxes.

They are then combined with 90DEG clamp and carefully tack welded together. Clamp and the creation of two pieces at a time, one short one long, repeat the operation for the other two. Continue the same steps for the second box.

Check both boxes for the square for the completion of the final weld. Once that is done. The hardest part about building mold boxes is to locate accuracy of the register pins. For each subject you to two long tapered
locating or alignment pins, which are fixed (welded) on the drag box on each end, and four short pieces of flat steel surface, which act as the registry pin holder and the pin locator.

Once the steel lugs securely welded to the boxes, all you have to do is to turn to a number of small diameter steel bar handles, they must be welded to the face (top) box mold, making a comfortable fit for your hands, as you will with most of them.

If you pour sand to drop out of the box after rams, just read some short pieces of 5 / 16 "Dia rod inside each box, about half the distance from the top, that's all you need all the sand to drop from the mold during the stop box
sand molding operations.

Another crucial point necessary for an effective casting is a bottom board, board or planing machines, it is made of thick layers and is greater than the flask or box that rammed up. It also has two 1.5 "X 1.5" square wooden ribs on the bottom for a solid base, and provides a secure grip to retrieve the jig boxes to rotate than during the manufacturing process.
